Meet Madhusagar

Founder & Lead Instructor

From engineering classrooms and desk stress to classical Indian Hatha Yoga — helping expats, beginners, and professionals in Montpellier build strength, calm their nervous systems, and move with ease.

Rooted in Tradition, Guided by Experience

Growing up in India, yoga was never a fast-paced fitness trend or a 45-minute gym routine—it was a living, holistic tradition woven into daily life. However, like many of my students today, my early career took me down a very different path: I trained and worked as an engineer.

Working in tech and engineering taught me firsthand what modern desk life does to the human body and mind. I knew the physical strain of sitting for hours, the tightness in the back and shoulders, and the mental overload of constant deadlines. Seeking a structured, sustainable way to restore balance and manage that stress, I turned deeply into my own practice.

What started as a personal search for health evolved into a lifelong calling: to step away from the corporate desk, study the classical science of the self, and help others navigate the demands of modern life.

Trained at the Source in Kerala, India

In 2018, I returned to the roots of the practice and completed my formal Yoga Teacher Training at the renowned Sivananda Ashram in Kerala, India. Immersed in classical Hatha yoga, I studied not just physical postures (asanas), but the precise mechanics of breath regulation (pranayama), systematic relaxation, and mental clarity.

Since then, I have been fortunate to teach diverse communities across India, Sierra Leone, and now France. Living and working internationally taught me that while our daily routines differ, human bodies carry stress in remarkably similar ways. Yoga has an extraordinary ability to ground us, regardless of age, background, or flexibility.

A Methodical, Safe Approach for Real Bodies

Having made the transition from a high-stress desk career to full-time teaching, I bring a thoughtful, methodical approach to every class. I don't expect you to fold into extreme postures or look like an Instagram photo. My role is to provide a safe, structured space where you can build functional strength, relieve chronic tension, and down-regulate your nervous system at your own pace.

Why Practice with ChiYoga in Montpellier?

  • 100% English Instruction: Designed specifically for expats, researchers, students, and locals who want clear, stress-free guidance without a language barrier.

  • Authentic Sivananda Lineage: Classical Hatha focusing on breath, steady posture holds, and deep relaxation.

  • Small Group Focus: Capped class sizes so every student receives individual alignment adjustments and anatomical care.

Today, I am proud to call Montpellier home. For me, yoga isn't just something we do on the mat for 75 minutes—it is a practical tool for walking through everyday life with more awareness, resilience, and ease.

I believe the greatest benefits of yoga aren't found in mastering a posture, but in bringing the practice into everyday life.
